Day 32 – Forbidden City

By on Oct 4, 2017 in Shanghai, China (2017) | 0 comments

It was an early start and by the time we got to the Forbidden City, it was already very busy with people. See the previous post.

The tour guide today (different than yesterday) was a little easier to understand but I was unable to really record because there was so many people, you wouldn’t have heard here. But she did a fantastic job explaining everything. It is a HUGE structure and it seemed each time we entered what we thought was the ‘inner’ section, there was another wall and door to go through. The site itself was surrounded by a large moat and tall walls to prevent attack. Each building had respective chinese symbols on the roof that had different meanings (too many to explain here)

We entered through the front and proceeded through towards the back gardens.

We had a short break of 15 minutes to walk through and explore the living area of Empress Dowager Cixi (Dragon Lady) area within the city.

When we were done, we walked through the gardens and out the back.
