This is an outstanding example of the a National Historic Site.  It is beautiful, well maintained and the programming is excellent.  We did the self guided adventure tour ( no additional costs) and the kids became spies in the Citadel.  The comic book provides the back ground story and leads the children to all aspects of the fort to discover clues.  Upon our arrival, they were given special spy bags filled with all the tools they would need: flashlight, magnifying glass, etc..  They were totally engaged and excited to learn the history and solve the clues.  The staff were obviously well versed with the program and played along.  They would question why they were in restricted areas like the magazine building, and if the kids were too obvious, they would stop them and quiz them about being spies.   They would inform them what would happen to them if they discovered they actually spies.

We concluded this wonderful day with Hailey’s special birthday dinner at Mexicali Rosas.  she got to have an upside down volcano and deep fried ice cream 🙂
